2020 YEAR IN REVIEW...
The year started out innocent enough. Amy was serving her mission in St. Petersburg, Russia. We were taking Luke for drives, we went ice skating and had the Young Men at church over for a gyoza making class. Luke's ears were bothering him and we discovered there was some embedded putty in his ear canal, so we made an appointment at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center to have it removed by a specialist. The surgery went smoothly.
Sister Stout with a sister from her mission that came back to St. Petersburg for a visit.
She was having a great experience on her mission.

Luke turned 18!
Evening with the Young Men in our ward
Brian and Chloe had some inspiration that they should move in for a bit until he started his job with Deloitte after graduation. Little did they know-little did anyone know what was about to hit the world...
May and Lincoln were thrilled to have Brian around because he is such a fun uncle.
They were also thrilled to have Wesley and Chloe around to play with...
No more putty in the ears Luke!
Luke loves it there!
We were planning on taking a trip to Japan with the money Tim got from the Waterford Educator Prize, but after Covid hit and we changed plans and decided to use the money for new carpet and to set up an office for Tim. He got a new desk that adjusts up and down, new shelving, a new ipad. It sure came in handy for teaching online.
In March, Tim, Luke and I, Brian, Chloe and Wesley went to California to Knott's Berry Farm and to Huntington Beach. We had dinner in a vintage cafe on the pier. While we were away, they installed the new carpet. Tim set up his new office. It was just in time because he ended up teaching online for both Waterford and UVU until the end of the semester.
2020 Home Improvement Projects...
Master bedroom refresh
Painted Grandma Stout's desk white and replaced the hardware
New carpet in the front room, down the stairs and the three upstairs bedrooms had extra thick padding installed underneath the carpet for sound proofing. So nice!
New office
New front stairs
Blinds and drapes
We updated the porch area with new stairs, we got new blinds, curtains, and updated our master bedroom. We painted the wooded screen from Japan and converted it to a headboard, bought new end tables and some new artwork.
Brian and Chloe moved in just before the lockdown. Chloe got a feeling they needed to move, and it turned out to be just in time. Brian graduated from BYU's School of Accountancy, (he was on the Dean's Honor Roll several times) and started working for Deloitte in July. Chloe graduated from BYU-I with an Associates degree.
They were great to take a turn conducting Come Follow Me, helping with mowing the lawn and and we loved watching Wesley grow.
Amy volunteering at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg
Huntington Beach Pier
Knott's Berry Farm
Luke loves the rides
We ate at a fun vintage restaurant out on the pier
Right when we got home, everything started to shut down because of the coronavirus risk.
We had church at home!
Kayla flew out to help Rachel drive home from BYU-I. She spent the night and the next morning a huge earthquake hit in Magna. We waited until things settled a bit and then LaNae drove her up to the Idaho border to meet Rachel. We stopped at the Tremonton Cemetery along the way to see Grandpa and grandma Petersen's graves.
Several family members passed away this year-
Uncle Don Owens, Cousin Arlo Starr, Cousin Ryan Stuart and Aunt Glenda Taylor
Leland bought a motorcycle
Right away people needed lots of masks, so LaNae made some
Then the missionaries went into isolation with Amy training a new sister.
The schools all closed and Luke started online school
The library, Waterford School and UVU all closed and we started working at home and trying to stay in as much as possible. There was a run on toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and staples like rice and flour, but fortunately we had all those things in our storage so we were fine.
Brian finished up his classes at BYU online and graduated in April. It was an online graduation.
He did really well in his program and was hired at Deloitte in Seattle, WA.
We made plans to take them there in July...
Chloe graduated too from BYU-I with her associates degree
We had our graduation celebrations at home
We had to move Easter for May and Lincoln to May because of the coronavirus,
but Lincoln celebrated Easter with us
The Russia St. Petersburg mission started doing devotionals and classes online and Amy's mission president asked us to make a video for the mission. Brian was able to use his Russian language skills
Shy little Wesley started to bond with us, especially with his Grandpa-it was the cutest!
He got his very first tooth
He did a lot of firsts while he lived with us, like rolling over, sitting up, crawling, walking and climbing stairs.
It was priceless to be there for these milestones!
Brian drew this picture of Wesley for his art class
May and Lincoln couldn't come over for about two months so we did Zoom calls and then by the time they were able to come over, it was summer so we spent a lot of time playing outside.
Poor David was not allowed to leave the care center.
Fortunately, they let us visit him there for his birthday.
Zoom gatherings with our extended family
Luke graduated from Seminary
Luke began stocking up on Kikkoman Low Sodium Soy Sauce and Rice Vinegar
When summer started, they decided it was safe enough to divide the ward into thirds and to take turns being able to come to church every 3 weeks, masked of course.
Tim was given a delivered surprise for Teacher Appreciation
Deloitte instituted work from home and so Brian didn't have to move to Seattle in July. They were able to save a ton of money and it was the ultimate best thing to have them around us!
We went on lots of long walks outside to get exercise.
It was glorious!
In July May turned 5 years. She ended up doing online kindergarten.
We are blessed beyond measure in the grandkid department!
We had some summer sleepovers
Brian is getting so accomplished at playing hymns
The 4th of July
On July 6th, Amy returned from her mission.
She flew home with her mission president and his wife as they were finishing up their mission too.
We were grateful to have her back safe and sound.
It was her first time to meet Wesley in person
We found out that Deloitte was extending their work from home from September to at least January
We stayed in cabins at Slippery Falls and enjoyed a book group, survivor game, swimming, movie nights, missionary reports, testimony meeting and a wonderful workshop for the adults.
Everything was wonderful and no one got Covid!
Uncle Rick's family had Amy over to tell about her mission
In August we went on some fun hikes close to home
Tim and I took a little retreat time up in the canyon for Tim's birthday
Family Home Evening trips to Highland Glen
Linda came for a visit and we had fun shopping, eating and playing with kids
Luke started school in the fall at ATEC
Tim was able to teach in person at Waterford School, but was still online at UVU
We went to the park for Family Home Evenings
We attended the funeral of Ryan Stuart, my cousin Pam's son who died from a seizure.
Mom left 4 plots in the Tremonton Cemetery and Ryan was buried in one of them, which happened to be right at the foot of where Pam will be buried. It was fun to visit with cousin Jill at the funeral.
In October there was a "Blue Moon".
We took a walk through the cemetery at night and then celebrated with family...
