This was a hard week, but priceless! Tim got me a flight to Oklahoma with frequent flyer miles. Grandma Choate's diabetes has spread from vision loss and kidney troubles to a severe infection in her right foot (sepsis). She is not expected to live much longer, so I went to see her.
She is refusing to go to the hospital or to see a doctor. I went with Linda on Monday to talk to a wound care specialist to see if we could get her to go in. He said giving her medication to get her in would be too traumatizing for her when she woke up. He recommended keeping her peaceful and comfortable at home. He said she will pass when the infection reaches her knee.
My brother David decided to come down for a week from Wisconsin. He was great help in watching mom while I rented a carpet cleaner/Upholstery cleaner, and cleaned all the couches and carpets and rearranged the pictures on the walls. Eric was able to fly in Thursday night, so all 10 of moms children were able to gather around her and express our love for her. Eric made the yummiest dinner for us on Friday night. Jimmy bought an old slide projector and found many slides from when we were young. We watched them on Friday night and it was so much fun to remember living on Guam and early Oklahoma City memories..
I love my mother incredibly. She sacrificed for us and was a good example. I love and will miss her very much. I'm so grateful for the time I got to spend with her! She should be passing any day now.
It's times like these that I think about the Plan of Salvation and am grateful to know we will see our loved ones again.
